We are pleased to welcome Dr. Stephany Contreras as the new Assistant Principal of Oyster Bay Middle/High School. Dr. Contreras will also serve as head of the ENL and World Languages departments. “It is with heartfelt excitement that I introduce myself,” said Dr. Contreras. “I am honored to join a district that exemplifies excellence, community pride and a deep commitment to every student’s success.”
Dr. Contreras has an impressive background in both classroom instruction and leadership. She has taught Spanish and English as a New Language and co-taught in diverse subject areas such as science and social studies. These experiences have helped her develop a well-rounded understanding of how students learn and how teachers can be best supported to help students thrive.
Throughout her career, Dr. Contreras has been a champion for culturally responsive instruction and family engagement. She has led efforts to strengthen teacher collaboration and build inclusive learning environments where all students feel supported - both academically and socially.
“At the heart of my leadership style is building relationships,” she shared. “I believe every student, staff member and parent deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued.”
In her dual role as assistant principal and department head, Dr. Contreras will work closely with teachers, staff and families to support student learning, promote inclusive instruction and ensure that the district’s ENL and World Language programs meet the diverse needs of learners.
Her academic journey mirrors her professional values. Dr. Contreras holds a Doctorate in Administrative and Instructional Leadership from St. John’s University, a master’s degree in TESOL from Touro College, and a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Languages and Literature from Queens College. Her studies have deepened her passion for language, culture and building strong partnerships between home and school.
“What drew me to Oyster Bay–East Norwich is the wide range of opportunities students have to feel connected - through academics, athletics, music, theater and clubs,” she said. “I believe school should be a place students want to be, and I’m excited to support the many ways they find belonging here.”
“Thank you for welcoming me into the Oyster Bay–East Norwich family,” she said. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve this incredible community and am excited for all that we will accomplish together.”
