Principal's Greeting - James H. Vernon School

Welcome to James H. Vernon Elementary School

At Vernon we are proud of the array of services and programs we have in place to meet the educational, social, and developmental needs of the students we service. Our grade level teachers are all experienced educators who are able to present the curriculum in a positive and innovative manner to enhance and encourage learning for all students. In addition to our classroom teachers, we have programs such as Academic Intervention Services, Supports for English Language Learners, Wilson Reading, Speech and Language, and Special Education services available to students in need of extra support.

Vernon offers an array of special subject areas which includes Music, Art, Physical Education, Band, Library, Science, Technology, Orchestra, and our special Atlantis Program. Mandarin, French, and Spanish are also courses of study offered to our 5th and 6th grade classes.

The school day does not end at dismissal because we offer a variety of clubs and afterschool activities to hold and challenge your child’s interest. These include our Newspaper Club, Book Club, Environmental Club, Chess Club, Art Club, Leaders Club, Math Club, Student Council, and our Musical Theatre Club. Before school we offer such activities as Athletic Intramurals as well as Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.

Student support services are an important and integral part of our school. Our school psychologist, social worker, and guidance counselor are readily available to provide social and emotional support for all our students.

At Vernon our goal is to work closely with our students and families in support of giving our students the essential tools, both academic and social, to grow and be prepared to succeed as they meet challenges that lie ahead.

Sincerely,
Martin Nelson, Interim Principal
