Research Opportunities & Competitions - Social Studies

National History Day

Students enrolled in the Research in the Social Sciences course during the fall semester have the opportunity to take part in the National History Day Regional Competition at Hofstra University in March. Through their participation in the contest, students will experience important benefits beyond learning about interesting issues, ideas, people, and events of their choosing. Students will hone their expressive abilities as they demonstrate command of their topic and present their work in one of the competition’s formats: paper, exhibit, performance, documentary, or website. At the local and affiliate competitions, students have the opportunity to meet students from other schools, exchange ideas, and demonstrate the results of their work.

Since NHD was first introduced to Oyster Bay High School in 2017, there have been two students who have advanced to the state competition in Cooperstown, New York and three students who received special awards for their projects, listed below.
