Dear Parents and Guardians of Theodore Roosevelt Students:

I am delighted to be the new principal of Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School, and I am so excited to get to know you and your child!

For the past eight years, I have been the Director of Elementary Humanities in North Shore Schools. Before that, I was an Elementary School Principal in Mineola for eleven years. I live in Huntington with my husband and dog, and my son is in law school.  I am passionate that school should always be a place where children feel “at home,” where they have fun while learning actively, and where they begin their education by mastering the skills they will need to be strong readers, writers, mathematicians, thinkers, and lifelong learners.

I am thrilled to be joining the special, close-knit community of Theodore Roosevelt and Oyster Bay-East Norwich.

Look for future emails from me on Parent Square. I will be inviting you and your child to some upcoming events where I can meet you. I am working on planning these events now, and I will send the details soon. Later in the summer, I also will send you information about the start of school. The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 5th.

Please know that the staff and I are always available to help with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. We are here for you, and we value your active involvement in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Devra Lee Small
