    OBEN Board of Education Celebrates Students and Discusses Security and Safety


    The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library.  The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School second grader Karina Mejia.


    Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld began her report by inviting Athletic Director Mr. Kevin Trentowski to the podium to recognize and honor athletes from the fall season who have excelled.


    The Director of the Fine and Performing Arts Department Mr. Peter Rufa came to the podium to introduce the Board and community to the cast of the 7 and 8 Grade musical production of “Broadway Through the Decades” which will be presented in the Oyster Bay High School Performing Arts Center (the PAC) on Friday, November 18 at 7:30 pm.  The cast delighted the audience to a lively preview song.


    Finally, Dr. Seinfeld invited Oyster Bay High School Student Council President Kimia Khaledi to update the Board as to what the Student Council has done so far this year and plans for upcoming events.  The Student Council will be holding its annual Toy Drive from November 28 through December 9 to collect toys to be donated to little children in need during the holidays.


    Also this year, the Student Council will sponsor a Holiday Card Collection for soldiers fighting overseas.  These card will serve to remind the soldiers that they are being thought of this holiday season and are always appreciated for their service to this great country.


    Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Lisa Mulhall invited James H. Vernon School Principal Dr. Valerie Vacchio to share with the Board the wide range of enrichment opportunities for students during lunch periods and during recess.


    Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Michael Cipriani spoke on Safety and Security.  Mr. Cipriani shared the podium with Head of Security for OBEN Schools Mr. Patrick Caffrey and Mr. Lee Mandel of Interlogic Solutions, the company that maintains the security technology for the District in cooperation with BOCES.


    The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library.  All are welcome.
