  • OB-EN Girl Scout Troop Earns Bronze Award

Oyster Bay – East Norwich Girl Scout Troop 65 earned their Bronze Award.  They began their work last September by completing the “Get Moving Energize Journey.”  They learned about recycling and ways to conserve energy.

For their Bronze Award project, the scouts chose to partner with The Book Fairies, a non-profit organization that gives donated books to people in need throughout the metropolitan New York area.  The girls connected to this organization because of their love for reading and wanting to help provide others with books to read.

They also liked that any books in poor condition would be recycled.  For their project, the scouts ran a book drive called “Buy a Book, Give a Book – The Vernon Book Fair is Here!”  The drive was run in conjunction with the book fair held at the James H. Vernon Elementary School, where most of the girls attend.

They collected hundreds of books, which The Book Fairies appreciated since their warehouse was nearly empty.  The troop hopes to make this an annual event at their school’s book fair.

Congratulations go to Girl Scout Troop 65 for making a difference in your community.
