    Description:   The National Honor Society (NHS) is composed of students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students in NHS organize community fundraisers and tutoring projects, participate in volunteer activities, and support scholarship through their collaborative leadership and effort. NHS members are expected to play a vital role in bringing the community together around service and leadership.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Candidates must be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade (second semester 10th graders are eligible).  Candidates must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of at least one semester. 
    • Candidates must have a cumulative unweighted scholastic average of at least 90%.  
    • Candidates will be evaluted on the pillars of Leadership, Scholarship, Character & Service. 
    • Students not accepted in 10th grade may re-apply in both 11th and 12th grade as long as grade requirements are maintained.  

    In order to maintain membership in NHS, members must meet certain criteria each year. To be considered a member “in good standing,” students must meet the following requirements:

    • Maintain a 90 unweighted GPA or better
    • Maintain an impeccable discipline record
    • Participate in regular meetings of NHS
    • Participate in 10+ hours of in-school, NHS-sponsored (including tutoring) and/or out-of-school community service every school year. Please note that service must be documented (name and signature of adult sponsor is required)
    • Pay annual dues of $10

    Selection Criteria:

    • All students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade with a 90+ unweighted GPA are invited to apply by mail. 

    Acceptance Criteria:

    • Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each Spring
