The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, December 17 at 7 pm in the OBHS Library. The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by OBHS senior Alex Tosi.
The Chamber Singers led by Ms. Meagan Finnerty sang a holiday song from the set of material they will be performing throughout the community for senior citizens shut-ins and children within the next week.
The District’s Athletic Director, Mr. Kevin Trentowski came to the microphone to recognize the outstanding athletic and academic achievements of the Oyster Bay High School students.
Steven Shoemaker was recognized as All-County and All-Academic for Football. Robert Howes was also an All-Academic for Football. Boys' Soccer recognized Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy as an All-County player. Dana Galgano is a Scholar Athlete in Girls' Volleyball. Vanessa Yu is a Scholar Athlete in Girls' Soccer.
The Boys and Girls’ Cross Country teams had an exceptional season. Many members of the team were recognized as well as their coach. Coach Kevin Cotter was selected as Coach of the Year for both Conference IV Boys' & Girls' Cross Country. The girls had three All-County runners in Maggie McNamara, Isabella Pace and eighth grader Michela Rutigliano. The boys’ team also had three All-County runners in Jason Cassella, Aidan Doxey and Alex Tosi. Alex Tosi was also recognized as the County Champion and who performed well in the State Championships.
Girls’ Tennis also had a championship season. Courtney Kowalsky and Celeste Matute were honored as All-County, Nassau County Champions and two time New York State Champions.
The Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Mr. Stephen Valente began the 2016-2017 Budget process with a presentation on the Budget Fundamentals. With New York State getting set to mandate a 0% tax cap, the budget process promises to be painstaking.
Finally, the Board of Education welcomed the new Supervisor for the English Language Arts Department, Mr. Ryan O’Hara. Mr. O’Hara will begin working for the OBEN Schools on January 19.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at 7 pm in the OBHS Library. All are welcome.
