Rising Researchers at Science Symposium
Passion for science was palpable as four Oyster Bay High School seniors presented their research projects during the 2nd Annual Science Research Symposium.
Senior Rachel Sabatello took the audience through a Power Point describing her research on betta splendens or Siamese fighting fish that are known to be highly territorial. With photos of how she individually housed and maintained the fish, she explained her research on “A Study into Transposable Elements: The Bridge Between the Brain, the Environment, Genetic Makeup and Tumor Development in Betta Splendens.”
LOTE Students Earn National Exam Awards
Thirteen Oyster Bay High School students have demonstrated outstanding proficiency in foreign language by earning high marks on the national French and Spanish exams.
The French exam, known as Le Grand Concurs, is sponsored by the Association of Teachers of French and evaluates students on their written, oral and listening comprehension. More than 72,000 students across the country took the exam and 17,062 or about 24 percent achieved award status. Sophomores Jillian Haguisan and Muskan Kumar received Silver Awards for scoring in the 85-90th percentile.
