    OBEN Elementary Students Learn How to 'Box Out Bullying'

    With boisterous voices and grand animated gestures, Mr. Jeremy Rubinstein, founder and creative director of Box Out Productions, along with Mr. Andrew Burdette, teacher and performer, taught students the difference between conflict and bullying by acting out the difference and calling on students to play a matching game to reinforce their learning. Then, through various characters and vignettes, they presented the four rules of anti-bullying: Don’t bully others, show empathy, include others who feel left out and tell a trusted adult at home or at school if you see someone being bullied or if you are being bullied.

    The presentation heightened awareness of what bullying looks like and left students feeling more empowered to combat bullying through techniques that maintain a positive school culture. The assembly was part of the District’s ongoing sfforts to promote social and emotional literacy and was brought to the schools by Vernon social worker Ms. Nicole Silva and Roosevelt social worker Ms. Migdalia Rosario.
