Mr. Anthony Femino, Supervisor
Anthony Femino has been in education since the fall of 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in music education from Ithaca College. He later pursued futher studies in School Building and School District Leadership at Queens College. Further studies included obtaining certification in Orff-Schulwerk after receiving all three levels at Hofstra University.
Mr. Femino taught 1st-6th grade music and chorus with the Cortland Enlarged City School District. In Cortland he helped establish a district-wide Boys' Choir for grades 5-8 and served as music director and vocal coach with the high school theatre department. Mr. Femino then taught 6-8th grade music in Harlem where he built a chorus and music program from the ground up. In Harlem, Mr. Femino's music classes focused on performance-based learning using Orff instruments and Afro-Caribbean drumming to further supplement vocal training. From 2009-2018 Mr. Femino taught at the Louis Armstrong Middle School in East Elmhurst, Queens where he taught 5th grade music, 6th grade beginning chorus, 7th/8th grade choir, and directed and musically directed the annual school musical.
Mr. Femino has presented workshops on sight-singing using the NYSSMA sight-reading criteria, general music, developing harmony singing in young choirs, and musical theatre at the local, state, and college-level. He has been an adjunct lecturer at Queens College teaching The School Choral Program. Currently, Mr. Femino is the middle school chairperson for the NYSSMA Classroom Music Committee.
