Sahill Yadav is a Nation Merit Scholarship Winner
Oyster Bay High School senior and valedictorian, Sahill Yadav, made history for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District when he was named a National Merit Scholarship winner, an honor bestowed on the most talented and promising students in the nation.
Sahill, who was awarded $2,500, was among the first group of award winners in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship program and is one of 1,000 distinguished high school students to receive a corporate-sponsored scholarship.
Winners were selected based on their outstanding combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success. Last fall, Sahill qualified as one of 16,000 semi-finalists — less than one percent of the nation’s seniors — who received the highest scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of those semi-finalists, about 15,000 met the high academic standards and numerous requirements to advance to the finalist level. About 7,500 finalists have earned the “Merit Scholar” title and received more than $31 million in college scholarships.

Sahill, who aspires to run his own business someday, will attend the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
“Sahill is an exemplary student and individual who is an outstanding role model for his peers,” said Oyster Bay High School Principal Ms. Sharon Lasher. “As we wish him luck in his next chapter at the University of Pennsylvania, he will be remembered as one of Oyster Bay’s most brilliant and well-rounded students.”
