Homecoming: A Day of Baymen Pride
In a grand spectacle of pride for school and community, Oyster Bay High School held its Homecoming parade and game, Sept. 16, just as morning clouds burnt off into glorious sunshine.
Spirits ran high as the parade, trimmed in Oyster Bay purple and gold, stepped off in front of Oyster Bay High School at 12:45 p.m. and made its way to Memorial Field. Led by a police escort, the procession included the high school marching band, cheerleaders, central administration and the Board of Education, students and staff from Roosevelt and Vernon Elementary Schools with their banners, clubs, middle school students, high school students from each class with banners and floats, the Homecoming Queen (the King was unable to attend this year), and the senior class with their banner and float. This year’s theme was sports, which was incorporated into the design of each float.
The day heated up as the Baymen hit the gridiron to face off against the East Rockaway Rocks. The Baymen sizzled during the first half of the game with two touchdowns by Dylan Henshaw, taking the lead over their rivals. With a pumped up crowd, the senior class fired up the turf with their sports-themed lip sync performance that garnered cheers from the stands. While the Baymen gave a valiant effort to hold onto their lead, East Rockaway managed to score a touchdown with a minute left on the clock in the fourth quarter, ending the game in their favor, 16-14.
Thanks go out to all who made the Homecoming parade and game an enjoyable event. Come on out to support the Baymen at their upcoming games:
