OBHS Senior Wins Scholarship to Pursue Journalism
In April, the Long Island School Public Relations Association (LISPRA) invited applications for a President’s Scholarship in the amount of $500 to a graduating senior (June 2017) who will be pursuing college studies in journalism, photo-journalism, or public relations.
Interested students were asked to send their student resume, transcripts, and an essay about their education and career goals by Friday, April 21.
The LISPRA President’s Scholarship, in the amount of $500, has been awarded to Alexander Gelabert, a senior at Oyster Bay High School. The award was based on a review of students’ high school transcripts, participation in journalism and other activities, and the quality and content of an essay expressing a desire to pursue an education and career in journalism. Oyster Bay High School Counselor Deanna Cali encouraged Alex to apply.
Mr. Gelabert will be attending the prestigious School of Journalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Founded in 1908, the Missouri School of Journalism is known as the first and finest journalism school in the world.
