    OBEN Board of Education Recognizes Outstanding Language Skills by OBHS Students


    The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, May 23 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library.  The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Oyster Bay High School Sophomore Giavanna Gerken. 


    Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld began her report by thanking the community for passing the budget by the largest margin in our history.  The budget passed with 78% of the vote.


    Mr. John McEvoy returns for a second term on the Board of Education and Dr. Aliex Ross begins her first term.  The District bids farewell to Ms. Romeo for her hard work, dedication and service to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich community. 


    The Director of the Fine and Performing Arts Department Peter Rufa, introduced Tom Seslowsky to sing for the Board and community accompanied by Ms. Meagan Finnerty on piano.  He then invited Sophie Mejia to perform a musical piece on the trumpet.  Both students were recognized and honored by the Arts Reach Fund which makes donations to the schools for the purpose of providing scholarships to students for them to receive private lessons.

    The Supervisor of English Language Arts, Reading, & Library Media Dr. Ryan O'Hara came to the podium to recognize outstanding writers from the high school.

    Dr. Seinfeld congratulated Board members Mr. Todd Cronin and Ms. Jennifer Romeo for being cited for excellence by the New York State School Boards Association.

    BOE Awards     

    Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Lisa Mulhall began her report by inviting the Supervisor of the Mathematics Department Jack Burke to the podium.   The link to the presentation can be found through the link below.


    Mr. Burke was proud to announce that OBHS has begun a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club bringing our Math Club and Mathlete students together with the STEM program at the Boys and Girls Club.  Also Ms. Loring at Vernon has formed a Math Club.


    Dr. Seinfeld introduced the Board and community to two new teachers hired by the District.  Dr. Deirdre Faughey was hired to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of OBHS English Teacher Marjorie Vigliotti.  Ms. Victoria Wink was hired to fill the void left by Physical Education Teacher Jay Davis on his retirement.  Students and the community are already familiar with Ms. Wink who has been the leave replacement for Ms. Murcott since January of this year.  Ms. Wink is also the Varsity Softball Coach who has led her young team to the County Championship play-offs currently in progress.
