A Season of Record Breakers and Champions in OBEN Sports
As we say goodbye to Winter, we close the books on another banner season for Oyster Bay High School Varsity Sports. This season produced an All-State Wrestler, Keith Cassar, who finished 4th at the State Championships, two record breakers, and Nassau County Class B Champions. The Boys Varsity Basketball Team won the Nassau County Class B Championship for the second year in a row. Coach Brian Boyle had this to say about his team’s season and their promising future, “This season was a great surprise. After graduating 7 seniors, 5 of them being the core players of the team, nobody expected us to win the County Championship again. Columbia University's Teachers College Chooses OBEN Schools
Almost ten years ago, when Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld was the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Schools, she helped establish a relationship with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project of Columbia University. The OBEN schools were chosen by Teachers College to show how effective the reading and writing workshops can be when taught properly. Scores of teachers and administrators from all over Long Island visited our schools to observe and learn from OBEN teachers. The relationship with Teachers College remains strong to this day. The liaison has expanded to include educating parents in effective teaching techniques. This has become popular and is now an annual event.
