OBEN Board of Education Begins the 2016-17 Budget Process
The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, December 20 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library. The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Oyster Bay High School student Kate Devereaux.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld began her report by inviting Ms. Meagan Finnerty and the Oyster Bay High School Chamber Singers to delight the audience with a few holiday tunes beautifully performed.
Assistant Business Official Ryan Butler approached the podium as the chairman of the Wellness Committee to introduce Mr. Charles Rizzuto and many of his students who researched the noise levels in all the schools’ cafeterias shared their findings with the Board and community.
Director of Special Services Ellen Loewy proudly announced an award that the OBEN Special Services has earned called Special Needs Career/Technical Education Collaborative Award.
Transition Specialist with the Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Center, Ms. Cathy Pantelides was on hand to present the District with a certificate and a check for five hundred dollars. Ms. Pantelides said that Oyster Bay-East Norwich Special Services program was given a number one rating from all but one judge.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Lisa Mulhall congratulated the Director of the Fine and Performing Arts Department Mr. Peter Rufa on a wonderful winter concert season. Dr. Mulhall reminded the Board and community that there are still two concerts left with the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Singers concert on Wednesday, December 21 at 8 pm in the OBHS Pac and the 3rd and 4th grade concert which will be held at night for the first time. That concert will take place at Vernon on Thursday, December 22 at 7 pm.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Michael Cipriani began the Budget process that will culminate with the Budget vote on Tuesday, May 16 at Oyster Bay High School. Board Vice President John McEvoy commended the school on a successful Engineers’ Breakfast held last week at Oyster Bay High School.

Please, note that the January 3 Board of Education Work Session has been cancelled. The topics scheduled for discussion at that meeting have been rescheduled and can be found on the revised schedule posted on the website at http://obenschools.org/Page/324.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library. The 2017-18 Budget process will continue. All are welcome.
