On February 26th the Board of Education approved adding a proposition to the school budget ballot as a separate Capital Reserve item asking the community to vote on installing a turf field, bleachers, protective netting, and a walkway at Vernon. As a Capital Reserve project, this additional field and valuable game space will not add any additional costs to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich taxpayer. The 2019-2020 budget vote and other propositions, including a turf field as Proposition #4, will be held on May 21st from 7 AM to 9 PM in the high school library.
The attached rendering by the district architect illustrates what this new facility at Vernon would look like. It will be lined for all of the district's outdoor sports, even those that might not typically play at Vernon, so we can move a game to the turf if it becomes necessary. You will notice this rendering includes the Field House along the path (red rectangle.) This new construction was approved in May 2018 and is expected to be constructed this summer. This Field House will contain restrooms and a concession stand.
