Oyster Bay-East Norwich Board of Education recognized for service at October meeting

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District Board of Education was recognized for its dedication and service to the district during its Oct. 13 meeting, held in the Oyster Bay High School auditorium. In honor of New York State School Board Recognition Week, celebrated annually in October, board members were presented with citations from the county acknowledging their commitment to the district’s students, staff and community.
The meeting also featured a presentation by Director of Fine, Performing and Media Arts Erica Giglio Pac, who shared updates and celebrated recent student achievements. Highlights included a record four student musicians selected for the NYSSMA All-State Music Festival and the district’s first-ever Scholar-Artist recognition from the Long Island Arts Alliance and Newsday.
Ms. Giglio Pac also highlighted the continued growth of Bay News Now, the high school’s student-produced morning news program, which is celebrating its fourth anniversary and now involves 43 students. Looking ahead, she announced the return of musician Mark Wood and his Electrify Your Symphony program, which will culminate in a public performance in February.
Ms. Giglio Pac also promoted the district’s upcoming theatrical productions, which include James H. Vernon School’s production of Disney’s “Descendants,” for which tickets are now on sale, and Oyster Bay High School’s fall play, “You Can’t Take It With You,” with ticket sales opening soon.
Superintendent Dr. Francesco Ianni shared several upcoming district initiatives, including a presentation on technology use scheduled for the Oct. 27 Board of Education meeting and a Parent University session focused on AI literacy on Nov. 16.
The board also discussed the possibility of installing lighting at one or more district athletic fields. The board will schedule community forums in the upcoming weeks to gather public input and give residents an opportunity to share their perspectives on the proposal.
