For the first time in school history, Oyster Bay-East Norwich's 5th and 6th-grade Jazz Band took the stage at NYSSMA Majors and left with the highest honor possible.

Competing at a Level 2, the young musicians earned a Gold with Distinction rating, a remarkable achievement that left even the judges in awe. At one point during the adjudication, one judge paused to ask the ensemble, Are you guys sure you're in fifth and sixth grade?

The milestone is a proud moment for the entire OBEN community and a testament to the hard work and heart these students poured into their performance. Their director, Mr. Devassy, guided them every step of the way to this extraordinary historic first.
