Pre-K Students Get a Head Start on Bus Safety

Over the last week, Pre-K students got a preview of an exciting experience awaiting many of them in the fall: riding the school bus. Each class took part in a fun, hands-on session with members of the transportation team, getting up close with one of the district's school buses and learning the safety essentials for life on the road.
Two buses were parked on the blacktop behind Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School, and students were invited to board and explore. Once seated, they paired up, buckled their seatbelts, and learned the ground rules: where to stow backpacks, how to keep noise at a respectful level, why food and drinks stay off the bus, and where to find the emergency exits. Every question got answered before they stepped back off.
Next came the highlight of the morning: a visit from Buster, a mini talking school bus. Buster fielded more questions, got the students dancing to some music, and wrapped up the session with a group photo.
Come September, these little riders will be more than ready.
