Rho Kappa Hosts First-Ever Social Studies Showdown

Oyster Bay High School's Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society turned up the competition this spring with its inaugural Social Studies Showdown, a Family Feud-style academic game show that had students, teachers and spectators on the edge of their seats.
Hosted by Rho Kappa President Dylan Nola, teams of students battled it out in a fast-paced trivia format designed to test their social studies knowledge. The competition quickly became a crowd favorite, but the real surprise came in the final round when the reigning student champions, the APUSH Survivors, discovered they weren't done yet. A secret team of teachers had been waiting in the wings, ready to challenge them for the title.
The APUSH Survivors rose to the occasion, defeating the faculty squad to claim the ultimate prize: a treasure chest filled with candy and gift cards, plus a trophy that will be engraved with their names.
The event was organized by Rho Kappa advisor Mr. Pontillo alongside the student leadership team and was filmed by Mr. Dollin and Oyster Bay's broadcasting students.
With the Showdown already generating buzz as a future tradition, organizers hope to grow the event each year, giving students a spirited and engaging way to sharpen their skills as they prepare for AP and Regents exams.
