OBEN honors top students at BOE meeting

Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District celebrated academic excellence at the Jan. 20 Board of Education meeting, recognizing valedictorian Mia Bencal and salutatorian Julia Milos for their outstanding achievements. Superintendent Dr. Francesco Ianni and board members presented plaques to both students, with Oyster Bay High School Principal Melissa Argaman delivering tributes highlighting their remarkable accomplishments.
Valedictorian Mia Bencal
Ms. Argaman praised Mia for her positive energy, respectful nature, emotional intelligence and natural leadership abilities. A passionate scientist, Mia serves as president of the Science Olympiad and actively participates in advanced laboratory work.
Her talents extend well beyond the classroom. As a gifted student-athlete, Mia has served as team captain and mentors younger students through Athletes Helping Athletes. She is also an accomplished musician, performing in both jazz band and pit band, and serves as editor of the school newspaper, the Harbor Voice.
Salutatorian Julia Milos
Julia was recognized for her exceptional talent, thoughtfulness, intellectual curiosity and strong work ethic. Earlier this year, she earned recognition as a National Merit Commended Student for her outstanding PSAT scores. With a passion for statistics and problem-solving, Julia plans to pursue actuarial science as a career.
Her achievements span multiple disciplines. An accomplished artist, poet and performer, Julia serves as president of the English Honor Society and captain of the varsity sailing team, demonstrating leadership both in the classroom and on the water.
The OBEN community congratulates Mia and Julia on their impressive achievements and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
