OBHS principal highlights mid-year achievements at BOE meeting

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Board of Education heard an encouraging mid-year update on Oyster Bay High School during the Jan. 6 Board of Education meeting held in the school auditorium.
Principal Melissa Argaman presented a comprehensive review of the high school's progress this year, beginning with introductions of the new administrative team: Dr. Stephany Contreras, assistant principal and ENL and world languages supervisor; Robert LoCastro, assistant principal and STEM supervisor; and Kimberly Corbo, secondary curriculum associate and humanities supervisor.
Ms. Argaman emphasized the strong support system the school counseling team provides throughout students' high school careers. The counselors guide students through every step of the college application process, offering application bootcamps, organizing college trips and fairs, and celebrating student decisions with a Decision Day event.
The principal outlined the breadth of opportunities available across all academic departments – from arts and humanities to science, math, physical education and special services – giving students numerous pathways to explore their interests and strengths.
This year has also brought significant building and operations upgrades that enhance the student experience. Improvements include new auditorium houselights, free breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, gymnasium and HVAC upgrades, parking lot repairs, a new MOOV attendance system, a science research printer and a Genius Bar internship opportunity.
Beyond academics and facilities, Argaman celebrated the school's fall athletic successes and the vibrancy of student life through clubs, honor societies, afterschool activities, field trips, spirit weeks and cherished school traditions. She noted that numerous accolades have been earned by individual students and the school community, including improved rankings from Niche and Great Schools.
The comprehensive report painted a picture of a thriving school community where students are supported academically, socially and personally as they prepare for their futures.
