A new summer program for a number of our high school students is smooth sailing after kicking off on July 27. The District partnered with Oakcliff Sailing Center for our summer sailing program, which gives 16 students a different kind of athletic experience. Not only will students take part in fitness activities on land and water, they will learn about the team-based sport of sailing and the communication necessary to be successful on a sailboat.
The summer sailing program is a hands-on experience led by Oakcliff instructors. Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn about the basics of sailing including the parts of the sailboat and how to detect the direction of wind. They will also get out on the water to learn about the mechanics of the boat including rigging, packing and setting sails.
