Deserving Teacher Awarded $1,000 Grant

PatriciaAnn McCaffrey, a special education reading teacher at James H. Vernon School, was recently recognized as one of 12 winners in the Teachers Federal Credit Union Teacher Appreciation Contest. As a result, Ms. McCaffrey received a $1,000 classroom grant.

She was among more than 1,000 educators whose names were submitted into the contest. After a weeklong public vote, Ms. McCaffrey was selected. This is the second year that the contest was held by Teachers Federal Credit Union during Teacher Appreciation Week. The goal of the contest is to recognize educators nationwide who “have worked tirelessly to help inspire, encourage and challenge the future changemakers of our world.”

Ms. McCaffrey was nominated for making a difference in the lives of students at James H. Vernon School. She not only teaches her students how to read, but also inspires them to advocate for their needs and the needs of others. In addition, Ms. McCaffrey is highly involved in the school community where she teaches parents and community members English as a second language during after-school hours.
