Students from James H. Vernon School filled the stage with Disney classics when they presented Vernon’s Magical Musical Revue on May 14 and 15. The highly popular production featured two separate casts, each performing one night, allowing the opportunity for more students to participate, and livestreamed for audiences to stay within health and safety guidelines.
Coordinated by lead director Ms. Teriann Chiappardi and assistant director Ms. Virginia Kemp, the show took audiences through vignettes of popular Disney productions, from Beauty and the Beast to The Lion King to Frozen, all lighting up the stage in a spectacle of color, song, and dance. The show featured a clever set design, brightly colored costumes and imaginative props that were created with the help of volunteers.
“Thank you to our directors for their excellent job in coordinating two separate shows, while working within the constraints of the health and safety guidelines,” said Fine and Performing Arts Supervisor Mr. Anthony Femino. “I also thank our casts and crews for all of their hard work, and to all who ‘attended’ the show via livestream to support our students.”
Ms. Chiappardi said, “More than ever this year, the students were beaming with joy and excitement to have the opportunity to practice and perform.”
She also expressed her appreciation to the sixth graders for being role models that inspire younger actors. “Everyone worked really hard over many weeks and it was such a joy to see them all bring the show to life on stage,” she said.
Special thanks also go out to vocal director Mr. Michael Lamendola, set design/stage crew director Ms. Lauren Szabo, the Board of Education, staff, and volunteers who helped make each show a smashing success!
