Kindergarteners and first graders at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School marked the 100^th day of school by engaging in a host of activities across the curriculum that celebrated the number 100.

Dressed as centenarians, students and teachers donned gray-colored wigs, glasses, bow ties and suspenders, for instance, to see what it is like to be 100 years old. Some classes made 100^th day crowns to wear for the day; others made headbands and drew pictures of what they would look like in 100 years. To keep things moving, students participated in a 100^th day of school dance found on  YouTube and engaged in other physical activities, including skip counting to 100 by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Using their iPads, students completed math activities on the classroom app, Seesaw, such as  drawing 100 gumballs in a gumball machine and choosing emojis to make 100 emojis using groups of 10. Math lessons extended into the real world where they predicted where they would end up after taking 100 steps out of the classroom and writing the results on a worksheet. They continued to practice counting to 100 in different ways, such as through making crafts and filling in number grids.

Classes also read books about the 100^th day of school and brainstormed about what they can see 100 of, out in the world, in the classroom or in their homes.

“The 100^th day of school celebration is a wonderful opportunity for our students to thoroughly engage in and be excited about learning as they immerse themselves in fun and dynamic lessons that build skills across the curriculum,” said Theodore Roosevelt Principal Ms. Tami McElwee. “Our students had a fun and productive day and I thank our teachers and staff for making it a great success.”
