Nine Teachers Awarded Tenure at BOE Ceremony

Nine teachers from the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District were awarded tenure during a formal ceremony at the May 7 Board of Education meeting.

Speaking before family members and staff, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld first described the stringent requirements for earning tenure and the significance of achieving this milestone.

“The District takes the recommendation of tenure very, very seriously,” she said. “We set a very high bar for our teachers and we work very closely with them to ensure they meet our very high expectations.”

She then called each teacher up individually, read a summary of his or her career accomplishments and contributions to the District, and presented them with a token of her appreciation.  Earning this career milestone were Mr. Charles Rizzuto, Oyster Bay High School physical education and health teacher; Ms. Maria Kim, Oyster Bay High School English language arts teacher; Ms. Fanny Diaz, Oyster Bay High School English as a New Language (ENL) teacher; Ms. Paula Luzzi, Oyster Bay High School Spanish teacher, Ms. Hayley Byron, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School kindergarten teacher; Ms. Jennifer Spelatis, James H.
