Oyster Bay High School’s Athletics Department has proudly announced its May selections for “Athlete of the Month.” The athletes were selected by their coaches and chosen for exhibiting qualities that make them exemplary role models for their teammates, such as leadership, dedication, attitude, level of improvement, and skill.

Brandon DeCarolis is Athlete of the Month for Boys Varsity Spring Track. Brandon, a junior, is the team’s leading point earner in league-meet match-ups, according to Coach Chris Weber. Brandon is currently ranked in the top five in Conference 4  for the 400 meter intermediate hurdles and is ranked 4th in the division for the 110 meter hurdles. Brandon is also a member of both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams and his sprint medley relay (SMR) team recently won gold at the East Meadow Invitational.

The Varsity Badminton Athlete of the Month is Cameron McKean. Cameron, a senior, is a four-year varsity badminton player, a three-year starter, and this year’s team captain. Cameron currently plays second doubles but has been an integral part of the program for years, playing various positions as needed. “Cameron is the ultimate team leader, guiding younger players, ordering team gear, and creating an open conduit between players and coaches,” said Coach Greg Bilello. “She is totally committed to the success of the Oyster Bay Badminton program. It is my pleasure to nominate her for our Athlete of the Month.”

The Athlete of the Month for Varsity Crew is Jason Mushorn. “Jason’s hard work in the sport is paying off,” said Coach Jason Moskowitz. “Having started rowing as a middle schooler, Jason has great blade work and sill for a freshman rower. Intense workouts and rows in the rain, sometimes two per day throughout Spring break helped prepare Jason to contribute to his crews’ success this weekend. We are excited to see him perform at the Long Island and New York State Championships next month!”

Katrina Zucconi, a senior is Athlete of the Month for Varsity Softball. “She has been a threat at the plate so far this season with a .731 batting average,” said Coach Victoria Wink. “She has 13 RBI’s and has hit three doubles. She has played a solid first base with 46 putouts in our first six games.”

The Athlete of the Month for Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse is Jack Rispoli. Jack, a junior, helped lead the Baymen to two league victories over Malverne/East Rockaway and Lawrence. In those two games, he scored nine goals and added four assists. So far this season, he has scored 21 goals and added seven assists. “He is a do-it-all midfielder and will be counted on the rest of the season as Oyster Bay plays in the Class D Long Island Championship in June,” said Coach Brian Soper. Congratulations, athletes!
