OBEN Board of Education sets the Tax Levy for the 2016-17 School Year
The Oyster Bay East Norwich Board of Education held its monthly Business meeting on Tuesday, August 2 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library. The audience was led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School second grader Dylan Nola.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laura Seinfeld began her report by inviting members of the BBS Architectural Firm to the podium to update the Board on the Bond project. The project plans are being prepared to be submitted to the state for approval. It should get to the state by the end of this month. The state usually takes about 36 weeks for approval. As of today, the approval process is estimated to take 22 weeks. If that process stays on that course, the building should begin in late spring and summer of 2017. The project is right on schedule as planned.
Dr. Seinfeld introduced the new Vernon School Library Media Specialist Christine Parente. Dr. Seinfeld also introduced Ms. Kelly Moore as the new District Clerk and honored and thanked Ms. Margaret Nolan for her twelve years of service to the District as District Clerk.
Dr. Seinfeld recognized that the New York State School Board Association honored Board Trustee Dr. Michael Castellano for his participation in Leader Development Training.
The Tax Levy was set at 0.15%.
The first day of school for students is Thursday, September 1.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:30 pm in the OBHS Library. All are welcome.
